Team communities can absolutely work, but they have to add value and provide compelling content/services, which most fall short. Teams should consider walling in their Twitter effort (and that of their players), making the feeds available through the community site in real-time during events, use the API's to provide a window into each social community so a user can go to community site and see the Facebook interaction, You Tube player, Twitter feeds, message boards, etc.

From there, it needs to become a more interactive experience, with the fans doing, UGC type of content, interaction during or around the events, etc.

Many opportunities, but they need to provide a stronger value proposition.
