Life After Michigan for Appalachian State

Since beating Michigan at the Rose Bowl in their opening game and putting Boone, NC, on the map, Appalachian State football has had its share of ups and downs. Everyone was calling for them to move to true DI, until they realized how much money it would cost to build a new stadium and support other DI sports. Also, according to CNBC’s Darren Rovell, the Michigan win may even cause App. State to lose money, since teams may not be willing to have them as the “cupcake” on their schedule anymore.

Since beating Michigan the two-time defending national champion Mountaineers have actually lost two games–Wofford and Georgia Southern. Two of their offensive linemen have suffered broken legs. But they’ve kept playing and have definitely been exciting to watch–they’ve averaged 39 points per game this season.  And their conference championship hopes are still alive; If they win out, App. State will claim at least a share of its 3rd straight Southern Conference championship. They play archrival Western Carolina this weekend; the 16,650-seat Kidd Brewer Stadium is sold out, just as it has been for every other  home game this year.

I’ll be there wearing black and gold and celebrating my brother’s 21st birthday, which was Wednesday.  Have a good weekend everyone. What games will you be watching (on TV or in person)?
