Also recommend www.RootZoo.com. It is a social network like Myspace for Sports Fans. Users write articles, create polls & threads, etc. They received points for their participation which can be used for prizes. Addicting.

How about a very quiet network that partners with large independent sites, keeping the conversation focused less on the national picture and more on the individual school.
We have 29 sites in the network and are currently reaching 2.2 million unique IP per month. We are fiercely independent and feel the best way to honor the communities is to not cram then into a large national cookie-cutter template.

Great list!

You missed http://www.oleole.com the largest social network for the most popular sport in the world – football (soccer).

Also the Nike Joga site hasn’t been active since the World Cup last year.

Marc – I think you answered your question. CBS Sportsline is a portal, and while it may have social elements, it’s not driven by users and thus isn’t a standard social networking/community site.
