The author of this article fails to realize that Boxing is a much larger sport than MMA. Why? because boxing is international. MMA has no appeal outside of the United States. In terms of participation, boxing is the second largest sport in the world behind soccer. Countries like the UK, Phillipines, Japan, Mexico, Germany, and Russia all adore boxing.

I used to be a big boxing fan in the past, but I kind of got out of the whole boxing scene, when MMA came around.

The facts:
--UFC earned $223 million in pay-per-view sales in 2006, compared to HBO Boxing ($177 million).
--UFC's reality show often has higher ratings than the NBA and MLB playoffs in the 18-34 male demo
--ESPN shows clips on SportsCenter now and has partnered with MMA site, Sherdog.com to promote content
--As in many venues across the country, UFC boasts the highest-grossing gate in Ohio history--higher than Elton John and Billy Joel combined.

So, while you're free to have an opinion, I have to disagree with you when you say MMA is "just a short phase."
